The XAudio 2 Beta Program is being retired! XAudio 2 is now available as an approved library for Xbox 360 and Windows development; the beta program will be retired in the near future.
Xbox 360 developers: Please download the most recent Xbox 360 Development Kit (XDK). Windows developers: Please download the most recent DirectX Software Development Kit.
The XNA forums (specifically the "DirectX (C++) > Audio / XACT" section) will remain active for public discussion and peer-to-peer support.
What is XAudio2? XAudio 2 is the new low-level, cross-platform game audio API for Xbox 360 and Windows. Like its predecessors, XAudio (Xbox 360) and DirectSound (Windows), XAudio 2 provides the signal processing and mixing foundation used by games for their audio processing. On Windows, it is the first significant change in Microsoft’s low-level game audio API’s in more than 7 years! For Xbox developers, it is an enhanced version of the current XAudio API, addressing customer feedback and suggestions. Since XAudio 2 is cross platform, it enables Windows and Xbox developers a “write once, compile twice” solution for their low-level game audio needs, significantly reducing the amount of work required to port across platforms.
Sincerely, Microsoft Professional Game Platform (PGP) and Microsoft XNA Developer Connection (XDC)
